How to Make your Beach Resort More Entertaining
- 12-02-2022
Planning activities that keep your guests entertained and happy can be tricky if you own a beach resort. If you choose games or activities that don’t appeal to your clientele, they won’t stick around very long, which will negatively impact your bottom line. If you want to make your beach resort more entertaining, here are some tips to get you started.
Five games you can play at the beach
While there are endless games you can play at a beach resort, we’ve found seven main games that guests like to play at all our resorts. Whether you’re looking for something classic, silly or competitive, we’ve got a match for you. Here are seven favorite beach resort games:
- Volleyball: This game has been entertaining and active vacationers since 1916, when it was introduced as a demonstration sport at the Olympic Games in Berlin! At most beaches, volleyball nets and courts are free, which is why most tourists bring their ball with them, so they don’t have to worry about having access to one.
- Hide & Seek: Although hide-and-seek may seem too simple for adults to be entertained by, it remains a crucial memory for many kids around the world. While some parents prefer playing more complex games at the beach (think: sandcastles), many still find joy hiding from other adults before getting found after a few rounds – making sure not to stay hidden for too long, of course.
- Frisbee Golf/Disc Golf: This sport is pretty like traditional golf but uses Frisbees instead of balls and clubs, with a set of 9 or 18 holes on which players attempt to score points in as few throws as possible. Since even large resorts have holes relatively spread out from each other compared to traditional golf courses, you can even enjoy Frisbee golf on large stretches of beach that have no people on them!
- Balloon Pumps/Pole High Striker: Several resorts sell air balloons separately, so you can do whatever you want with them – but most use these balloons to make silly videos. After buying balloons, shoot up into the air and then come down onto one leg while standing tall with both hands behind your back or side. Watch just how many times you can pump up these balloons until they reach their highest point, and then see if anyone else notices how high up they got before popping!
- Throw Shells/Bocce Ball: Grabbing shells off nearby beaches and throwing them towards designated targets over long distances has been entertaining guests for centuries; Roman Emperor Claudius was said to have thrown seashells from his palace windows every day during his reign.
Ten ways to play in the water
Sometimes, it can feel like all you’re doing at a beach resort is sitting in an uncomfortable chair, staring out at an endless expanse of ocean. But there are plenty of fun ways to get involved with some local water activities while you’re on vacation. Get wet, friends—you won’t regret it! Here are ten things you should do when you find yourself lounging by a pool.
1) Hit up any nearby beaches, of course!
2) Take surfing lessons from a pro or a friend who knows what they’re doing.
3) Don’t forget about snorkelling; if you don’t have experience, talk to one of the other hotels that offer snorkeling excursions and book one for a half-day trip out at sea.
4) Sign up for kayaking class, if available.
5) Before heading back home, stop into a party supply store and pick up some light boogie boards—they make great gifts, too!
6) Try paddleboarding.
7) Rent jet skis or WaveRunners for a few hours to see how you like them.
8) Throw on fins and dive down deep for scuba diving instruction, if offered.
9) If you’ve got kids along for the ride, sign them up for surf school! Or watch as they run around splashing water everywhere.
10) Hang out near shore and practice swimming strokes with fellow swimmers. Your feet will thank you later.
Let’s make it fun!
Beaches have one significant advantage over their urban counterparts: There’s plenty of room to spread out. If you’re running a beach resort, take advantage of that fact by planning fun events throughout your property (like concerts on a local stage or open-air barbecues). Those entertainment options will encourage guests—and, just as important, their families—to spend more time at your hotel and attract new vacationers looking for family-friendly getaways.
Don’t forget about adults!
Because family vacations are often based on children’s schedules, families can have a hard time enjoying all their beach resort has to offer. For example, when kids go to bed, families may find little to do for entertainment. So if you want your guests to come back next year and recommend you on TripAdvisor or HomeAway, you must have plenty of amenities for adults as well.
